Hamaguchi Apps for Speech, Language & Auditory Development introduces a groundbreaking app for the iPad, specifically designed for elementary students and beyond. This app focuses on practicing interpretation of vocal intonation, facial expressions, perspective-taking, body language, and idiomatic or slang expressions to enhance social understanding. Real photographs, voices, and short video clips are used to depict various social situations and expressions in a dynamic manner, offering an interactive learning experience that goes beyond traditional worksheets and flashcards.
The app features scenes from diverse settings such as a shopping mall, kitchen, restaurant, park, bedroom, school, gym, birthday party, and more to engage users in learning through observation.
It is important to note that this app is not intended as a social skills modeling tool. Adult supervision is recommended to provide guidance on situational language use, especially when encountering scenarios that may feature rude behavior or inappropriate language.
This Level 1 version serves as an introduction to the Between the Lines app series. It focuses on American expressions and body language with three core activities encompassing a total of 204 tasks:
- Listening: Users listen to a sentence spoken aloud and must identify the speaker from a series of photographs.
- Body Language: Short video clips portray interactions or situations where users interpret facial expressions and body language to select appropriate responses.
- Expressions: Video clips feature actors using idiomatic or slang expressions for users to decipher the meanings.
The game accommodates up to 75 individual users or group sessions with performance tracking and reporting for each activity. Customizable settings are available for individual users while group sessions require uniform settings for all participants.
Progress tracking, optional display settings, and entertaining reward animations like Dunk Tank, Bull’s Eye (darts), and Knock ‘Em Down provide engaging breaks throughout the learning process.
This app is ideal for speech therapy and children facing challenges in social communication.
